Eyelid surgery can be performed on the upper and lower
eyelids. Upper eyelid surgery involves the removal of skin and
some of the fat that surrounds the eye. If brow position low, a
forehead lift may also be indicated at the same time as the
upper eyelid surgery. Lower eyelid surgery also involves the
removal of excess skin and fat. In some instances, only one or
the other may need to be removed in order to achieve the look
desired. Sometimes, laser resurfacing of the lower eyelid is
performed at the same time that fat is removed. When lower
eyelid skin is removed, it is done so via an incision made
directly below the eyelash margin. A tightening of the lower
eyelid may also be necessary in order to preserve and possibly
improve the position of the lower eyelid in relation to the
iris. This procedure is known as a canthopexy. |
